We mentioned a while back that Tangerine, the P-38 owned by the Tillamook Air Museum, was moving toward coming back online.
Well, we just got word from the Museum Curator, Christian Gurling, that Tangerine recently made two successful 30-minute flights, with owner Jack Erickson behind the wheel.
It would be nice to see her in an air show or two now, so we can all share the glory of seeing this beautiful P-38 in the air again!

Hi all,
Just a quick note to let you know that the Planes of Fame P‑38, “23 Skidoo,” will be at their Valle, AZ Museum (near the Grand Canyon) this Saturday, June 27.
The P-38 National Association is holding our General Membership Meeting there beginning on Friday, and Steve Hinton and the good folks at the Planes of Fame in Chino, CA, will be bringing over the P‑38 during the meeting! How’s that for very cool?
There will also be an opportunity for anyone coming to the Planes of Fame Fly‑In there on Saturday to buy a flight in the P‑38 — so bring your checkbook or credit card…but don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for true P‑38 fans!

A quick “bucket list” announcement.
As part of the P‑38 Association’s annual General Membership Meeting, we have arranged for our members to reserve their spot for a flight in the P‑38 Lightning called “23 Skidoo.”
After discussing it at our Board meeting yesterday, we decided to also make this once-in-a-lifetime event available to P‑38 fans everywhere.
If you live in the Valle, AZ, area (or are willing to travel there), you can find all the details on our website. The flights will take place on Saturday, June 27, at the “Planes of Fame” Valle Museum near the Grand Canyon in AZ.
Just go to this page on our website, and click on the link near the top of the page that says:
P-38 FLIGHT RESERVATION INFO NOW AVAILABLE HERE
The deadline to register is Monday, June 22, so you need to act now if you want to take advantage of this P‑38 flight opportunity.
Hope to see you there!
BTW, the P‑38 Association is making the P‑38 available, but since we’re a small non-profit, plan to use a credit card if you want to reserve your flight.

Bob Cardin with P-38 Assn. Member, the late Archie Jackson
When I saw Bob Cardin at the Planes of Fame air show this weekend, he also mentioned that they are definitely planning to take another shot at the trip to Duxford, England to complete that re-creation flight attempted back in ‘07. He said it won’t be this year, but their broad timeframe is about two years. There’s a tremendous lot of support for this particular mission, and it was nice to hear that the trip is still in the hopper.

I ran into Bob Cardin (Project Manager on the Glacier Girl Expedition) this past Saturday at the Planes of Fame Air Show in Chino, and Bob mentioned that the only two air shows they have currently scheduled this year for “Glacier Girl” are Reno and Oshkosh. Thought you guys would want to know, so you can make plans accordingly.
