I was very interested to hear of the rescue of the Glacier Girl. I served in Labrador in 1953/54 with the 59th Fighter Squadron and got to ferry a T-33 to Tule
from Goose Bay. We heard about the Lost Squadron and the buried P-38s but It wasn't until after I had retired from my airline job that I heard that one of our Captains with Capital Airlines that I flew CoPilot for had flown one of those P-38s and it was his that they dug out of the ice. His mame was Harry Smith Jr. and his Dad was a Captain on Capital too. Sadly, Harry was gone before his bird was freed from the ice.

Hello, Alan:

Not sure if we can help you on this, but I'm passing it along to some of our members, many of who worked at the Burbank plant. If any of them know this info, I'll include your email address so they can respond. I will also approve this comment so anyone reading the blog who might be of help can contact you.

Blue skies,

Kelly

Ok... thanks, the last time I recall a P38 was seen at the CAF airshow in Midland, Texas was Lefty's White Lightning attending, been several years now. Glacier Girl sure is a beautiful P38. Maybe someday she will get to come to West Texas. Thanks so much for keeping us informed.
