Just a quick note to let you folks who live in or near California know that Glacier Girl will be making two previously unscheduled stops in California on her way to the Reno Air Show.
Planes of Fame President, Steve Hinton, has just left for Texas to pick her up and bring her back to Chino. She should arrive in the next few days, and is expected to be at Chino (and viewable by the public) for a short while until she takes off for the California Capital Air Show in Sacramento.
We can’t help but be pretty stoked to know that there will be three P‑38s in Chino in the next few days — 23 Skidoo, the Allied Fighters P‑38 and now Glacier Girl. It doesn’t get much better than that!
For you folks in other parts of the country, we know it sucks, but it just seems like most of the 38s are owned by West Coasters. Maybe when that Duxford, England, trip gets rescheduled you’ll have another shot at seeing Glacier Girl back East.
Anyway, if you’re within traveling distance, don’t miss her!
Blue skies,
Kelly

Tangerine is Back!
We received word from Christian Gurling at the Tillamook Air Museum that not only is Tangerine now back in the air, she is tentatively scheduled to be part of the Hillsboro Air Show (a suburb of Portland, OR) on Aug. 28,29 &30.
Obviously, if you have the chance, go see her spread her wings again.
This brings to 7 the total number of P-38s now participating in air shows around the country. This keeps getting better.

If you’re within driving distance of either Central California or Southern California, you’ve got an opportunity to see a P-38 in the air.
We’ve just heard that the Allied Fighters P-38 (with Jeff Harris behind the wheel) will be appearing at the “Wings Over Wine Country” show this weekend, August 15-16. Check out their website for details.
However, the really big deal is that the “Wings Over Camarillo” (pronounced cama-reeyo) event the following weekend will have TWO P-38s in attendance. They’ll have the above-mentioned Allied Fighters P-38 as well as the Planes of Fame P-38, 23 Skidoo (with Steve Hinton driving). Full details can be found here. Don’t miss this extremely rare chance.

Red Bull P-38
We received a note from Mike, over at the Indy Transponder blog, letting us know that the Red Bull P-38 (formerly White Lightnin’) appeared in the Zeltweg Air Power 2009 show in Austria. His friend, Frederic Cotton, put together a fantastic slideshow from the event, which includes some photos of that beautiful 38!
The show was sponsored by Red Bull, so it had quite a few aircraft from their collection in the air.
This link will take you to Frederic’s slideshow, while this one will take you directly to the the AirPower 09 website — where they have some great video from the show. They estimate that the crowd was 280,000 aviation fans. Wow!

We mentioned a while back that Tangerine, the P-38 owned by the Tillamook Air Museum, was moving toward coming back online.
Well, we just got word from the Museum Curator, Christian Gurling, that Tangerine recently made two successful 30-minute flights, with owner Jack Erickson behind the wheel.
It would be nice to see her in an air show or two now, so we can all share the glory of seeing this beautiful P-38 in the air again!
